SPCA Whangarei

Yvonne set up a second hand shop, called Scavengers, to raise money for her community. Over the past 12 years Yvonne and her team of volunteers have raised more than $200,000 selling second hand goods and collecting resources to redistribute to local primary schools.



Auckland - Bronwyn Gray
LAM Charitable Trust

Bronwyn Gray is raising public and professional awareness, and searching for a cure for LAM (Lymphangioleiomyomatosis) a rare progressive lung disease that only affects woman and makes breathing a daily battle. Bronwyn has created a web site and organized three international conferences to help patients and the medical profession understand the disease.


Waikato - Bruce Tocker
Life Unlimited Charitable Trust and Rukuhia Community Hall Society Incorporated

Bruce has been involved with the Rukuhia School Board of Trustees for 13 years. He played a large part in getting the school hall built, and he runs a swimming program for the school. Bruce is also on the Melville High Board of Trustees, and was the driving force behind the hockey team getting the funds to go to Australia. He co-founded Life Unlimited which assisted the disabled community with a building that fulfilled many of their needs.


Bay of Plenty - Perry Keyte
Welcome Bay Community Centre Incorporated

Perry started the Welcome Bay Community Centre offering a wide range of services, support and information to a community where poverty and empowerment are issues. Perry has worked with the Council and Government agencies for Welcome Bay to get its own Community Plan, the first in Tauranga to be fully controlled by the local community.


Taranaki - Lou Roebuck
Taranaki Youth Health Trust

Lou has worked tirelessly to raise enough money to set up WAVES— a one-stop-shop health and support service for youth. WAVES provides services and positive youth development programmes to more than 4,000 young people in Taranaki. Through this community service, Lou has helped many young people turn their lives around and start contributing to their community in positive ways.


Manawatu - Bruce Maden
Te Aroha Noa Community Services Trust

From very small beginnings, Bruce has developed a large community centre that includes an Early Childhood Centre and provides counselling, family/whanau development, parenting groups and adult education and community camps.




Gisborne - Matt Skuse
Poverty Bay Hockey Association Incorporated

For the past four years, Matte has been working to help raise money for a new hockey facility for the East Coast Region. Matt spends 30 – 40 unpaid hours a week on negotiations, raising the profile of the cause and innovative fundraising. His passion for hockey and commitment to this project will result in a facility the whole community will enjoy.


Hawkes Bay - Ros Rowe
Leg-Up Trust

Ros has spent the last eight years helping disadvantaged youth and people with mental illness through her Horses as Healers programme at Leg Up Trust. Ros helps young people who have been put in the 'too hard' basket and gives them a second chance in life.



Wellington / Wairarapa - Treena and Marcus van Rijssel
The House of Grace Trust Incorporated

Treena & Marcus set up The House of Grace to provide a home for pregnant young women and teens. They teach parenting skills, health and hygiene, ante natal classes and first aid to young mothers. Treena and Marcus make sure these young women are taught the vital skills needed to become a successful parent.


Wellington / Wairarapa - Andrew Walklin
Cystic Fibrosis Association of NZ

In spite of living with cystic fibrosis, Andrew is focussed on serving his community. He’s a coach for junior cricket players and a mentor and peer support person for others with cystic fibrosis. He is also an active member of his Community Service group and other local charities. Andrew is currently involved in setting up a charity to support up-and-coming junior cricket players.


Marlborough / West Coast - Anna Dyzel
Lions Club of Hokitika Charitable Trust

Anna has been supporting the Hokitika community through charitable works for the last 15 years. Gives freely of her time and expertise, is a willing worker, and can be relied upon to go that extra mile to provide an excellent service for the community. In addition to her work as director and doctor at the Westland medical centre, Anna spends many hours volunteering for the Hokitika Lions club, and willingly offers her time and expertise to other charitable organizations.


Canterbury - Josh South
Child Cancer Foundation of Canterbury

Josh works with disabled children/youth. He is active in the Child Cancer Foundation, coaches children's swim squads, and is a motivational speaker who especially inspires young disabled people. His positive attitude & ability to overcome adversity has helped many young people make positive changes in their lives.


Otago - Michelle Kennedy
West Otago Health Trust

Tapanui and West Otago benefit from Michelle’s volunteer work in many different organizations. She is involved with the St Johns ambulance service, the West Otago Community Board, and she is currently busy fundraising for a new medical centre and rest home in Tapanui.



Southland - Syd Harvey
Tuatapere RSA Association Incorporated

One of Syd's great community achievements is establishing the Tuatapere Armed Services Memorial Bursary Trust helps a deserving student from the District undertaking Tertiary education. The Trust has now assisted 7 local students. Syd has been a very active member and volunteer for the RSA and all its community service activities for 65 years.
