The Morgan Foundation

The Morgan Foundation is a charitable trust, set up by Gareth and Joanne Morgan with some of the proceeds of the Trade Me sale, and administered by the Morgan family.

The focus of the Foundation is on improving the lives of the poorest people in the world and enabling people to participate in their society and workplaces to the full extent of their potential. Many of the people and organisations supported by the Morgan Foundation are overseas.

The Kiwi Battler competition brings the foundation’s work closer to home, focusing on Kiwis throughout the country who make significant contributions to their community. The Morgan Foundation will donate $10,000 each to 13 different NZ charities nominated by the regional winners of the Kiwi Battler competition. A further $20,000 will be donated to the charity chosen by the National Kiwi Battler overall winner.

The New Zealand Police

The New Zealand Police is pleased to be associated with the Kiwi Battler competition. Working with the Morgan Foundation to identify and acknowledge the “grafters” and “battlers” in our community is an opportunity to say thanks to those who, like Police, are striving to make a difference at a local and national level.

While much of our work, — responding to incidents, interacting with offenders and working with victims — plays out in our daily media another major aspect of our role goes largely unnoticed by the public. That is the work we do with others in the community to identify and address safety and crime issues, preventing and reducing crime, and making communities safer. This is one of the cornerstones of our “community policing” approach.

Being involved with the Kiwi Battler competition provides us with an opportunity to recognise and reward others who are also striving to make a difference in our communities.
